Stolen: An Art Auction Masquerade

Thank you Nohbody, for joining us at “The Eye: Unmasking the Soul.” Now, we ask you to make one last offeringโ€“your entry into the Auction. On this card, please disclose a secret about yourself. Do not fear, everyone tonight will make the same offering. Note that the more intriguing and captivating your secret, the more it will come into play and accrue value throughout the evening.

โ€‹Your secrets are safe with us.

โ€‹“Would you offer us a secret?”

โ€‹A group of socialites. Some friends, others, strangers. Six exhibits, each a commentary on masking through the narrative of one specific odyssey. Why is that word bolded? You think that must be a clue. Or maybe something else entirely is going on. And what a strange question the host asked you upon entry. You’re sure it’s all connected somehow…

โ€‹…when a sound chimes drawing your attention. Turning to look for the source, you see your hosts standing on a small stage.

โ€‹“Welcome. The bidding will begin in a moment, but first, we would like to remind everyone that anonymity is key throughout the evening and that your masks must be kept on for the entire event. Just remember, that while this masquerade may hide faces, intentions are not so easily veiled. Let’s begin.”

โ€‹Bid, mingle, and uncover secrets in a vibrant game of social mixology.

โ€‹A Curated Situation and Setjed Syndicate present STOLEN, an event where guests play with or against each other in a game of connection and deduction. Each guest begins by putting a delicious and anonymous piece of their past up for auction. But no bidding on yourselves!

โ€‹Guests who interact earnestly will learn the most, but even those who prefer a more reserved approach won’t be at a disadvantageโ€”if they play their cards right. The key: forming connections and using your influence to convince others that you are worth betting on. By the end of the evening, you might find yourself hoping the winning bid goes to a stranger you’ve just met.

โ€‹“Going once…”

โ€‹Important details for those joining us…

  • โ€‹Masks are required: This is a masquerade costume eventโ€”masks are required and formal wear (or relevant thematic costuming) is highly encouraged. Masks must be kept on while inside the venue. If you need to remove your mask, we kindly ask that you do so outdoors.
  • โ€‹Prepare a secret: You’ll be asked to reveal something about yourself upon entryโ€”something juicy, perhaps? The more interesting, the better, as these details will be put up for auction and are a key element to the evening’s intrigue.
  • โ€‹This is a Curated Situation: Each person on the guest list was specifically chosen because we’re confident they will mix well as a whole. No one is attending who doesn’t personally know one of our two hosts, so rest assured it’s going to be an incredible time.

โ€‹We look forward to an evening of intrigue, connection, and unforgettable details. See you there!

“You can choose to show or exchange your cards at any time as long as your hand always has two cards. You can also force an exchange at any time by using one of the STOLEN stickers in your Purse. Place your sticker on the back of the stolen card immediately, and then hand whichever card you’re ditching to the person you stole from. A card can be stolen a maximum of twice before it is locked from further steals, so negotiate wisely.”

Participants were asked to document the exhibit themselves using digital “polaroids”

This was a playtest. We thank all of our participants.
